The alpaca

Alpacas are truly special animals. They’re gentle and have an inquisitive gaze. With their silky-soft fleece, they quickly win your heart. Originally, these animals come from the highlands of South America, mainly Peru, Bolivia, and Chile, where they’ve lived in harmony with people for thousands of years and are kept for their warm, luxurious wool. Unlike their larger cousin the llama, alpacas are not used as pack animals because they’re much smaller. They also have a friendly nature and are known for their calm and social character. Alpacas are true herd animals and feel most comfortable in a group. They communicate with each other using soft humming sounds and subtle body language. The wool is the most unique aspect of the alpaca. It’s incredibly soft, lightweight, insulating, and hypoallergenic. Want to experience these animals up close? You can at In de Hei! An encounter with an alpaca is always relaxing, heartwarming, and unforgettable.
